Cambridge/Riverside (Larger) Room Available in Spacious 2BR Near Harvard, MIT, Central Sq ($1725/mo)
I'm looking for a roommate to take over the larger bedroom in a 2-bedroom apartment located between Harvard Business School, MIT, and Central Square.
The apartment is a first-floor unit with a spacious shared living room, separate dining area,... open-concept kitchen, hardwood floors throughout, and a cute (though modest) bathroom with a glass-enclosed shower (water pressure is amazing!). The common spaces will be semi-furnished once the vacancy becomes available, and the apartment has been a comfortable and quiet home for the past two years.
The Apartment 🏠 • Lengthy 2-bedroom, 1-bath apartment • Spacious furnished living room • Adequate shared storage/closet space • Separate dining area • Open-concept kitchen • Appliances newly remodeled when I moved in (08/2024) • Dishwasher, microwave, electric stove • Air fryer, coffee maker • Portable washer/dryer in-unit • Hardwood floors throughout • Rainfall shower head w/ detachable hose • Heat and hot water included • Bike storage available • Street permit parking available • Street parking easy to find • Small pets welcome (no cats/dogs)
Location 📍 • Near Harvard Business School • 7-minute walk to Central Square (Red Line) • 5-minute walk to the Charles River • 15-minute walk to Harvard & Harvard Sq • 15-minute walk to MIT • Convenient access to downtown Boston
Rent & Utilities 💡
• Rent: $1,725/month for larger room • Partial deposit: I would ask that you put down a partial deposit of $800 • Utilities and internet average $130-180/month per person, depending on season • High-speed Internet: $30 per person • Available: July 1st
The Room 🏠
The available bedroom is the larger of the two rooms and comfortably fits a queen-sized bed, desk/workstation, dresser, bookshelf, and additional storage (has the larger closet as well). It has multiple windows that provide natural light. You may have to provide your own window A/C unit. (Will update if that changes).
About Me 👋🏼
I'm a 40-year-old 3rd-year PhD student in Sociology at Harvard GSAS. I moved to Cambridge from Berkeley, California in 2024, so the east coast is still a relatively new experience for me. I study carceral systems, probation, and criminal justice reform.
As a roommate, I value: • Cleanliness • Open communication / conflict resolution • Addressing issues directly and early • Mutual respect and consideration • Open to suggestions/recs/collaboration
I'm fairly quiet and introverted, though friendly and easy to get along with. Most of my time is spent working and focusing on my studies. To wind down, I enjoy running or streaming a show in the evenings, but my true passion is rock climbing. I enjoy cooking a few select meals occasionally but don't monopolize shared spaces.
My current roommate who is moving out would describe me as respectful, considerate, and easy to live with. Tbh, modestly speaking, I think I’m a pretty ideal roommate, and I think she would agree.
Looking For 🔎
I'm open to roommates of any gender (my roommate of two years was a woman of similar age and a working professional). She can attest to my respectability. Graduate students, researchers, and working professionals would likely be the best fit, though I'm open to others as well.
Partners are welcome to visit and stay over occasionally and no real limitations on visiting, but I'm looking for someone who shares the understanding that guests shouldn't effectively become an additional roommate. My partner lives in Providence, so I spend my weekends and free days down there when I can. This is not a party apartment, but small gatherings, dinners, movie nights, drinks with friends, etc. are absolutely fine—I’m not a stickler.
The floor plan of the apartment is convenient for quelling any noise disturbances since bedrooms are located on the furthest possible opposite sides of the unit, which provides good privacy. We’ve been fortunate to have respectful and quiet neighbors, both in the unit and surrounding buildings.
Showings 📅
My current roommate is available to show the room most weekday evenings.
So!
If you're interested, send me a message with a little information about yourself, what you do, and what you're looking for in a living situation! Please feel free to ask any further questions you may have, or request additional photos (though my roommate provided the 3 photos of her room, so those are currently limited, but more angles are possible upon request).
I know moving and searching for the ideal living situation can be a hassle, and I hope to do my part to make this as painless as possible for prospective roommates!
